Micro Brewery of the month- The Mallard Brewery
"I started brewing in 1973 as a home brewer with 'Boots' beer kits and by 1988 had
graduated to a full mash and whole hop brew. In 1994, with the encouragement of my wife and family, we decided to try commercial brewing from a shed at the back of our house.
"I built and installed a two-barrel plant and commenced brewing in August 1995. The brewery was the first of its kind in Nottingham since the closure of Home Breweries. At the time it was labelled 'The smallest commercial brewery in Britain', and remains one of the smallest in the country to date."The brewery building is a mere nine square metre and contains a hot liquor tank, mash tun, copper, and three fermenters. The initial trials lasted until the end of September when the first consistent brew made its debut at a beer festival at the Cross-Keys pub in Upton, Nottinghamshire. The major launch of the brewery was at the Nottingham Beer Festival in October 1995
